Sedation Dentistry – Lathrup Village, MI
Let Your Fears Disappear with Oral Conscious Sedation
What’s that, you say? You’d rather not see a dentist. That’s okay. You can tell us the truth—we won’t take it personally. We never do. At Signature Smiles, we have many patients that used to avoid seeing the dentist and now they’re completely comfortable in our office. Why? Because our dentists and staff understand if you’re afraid of all things dental. We want to help you overcome your dental fear and anxiety so you can have the smile you deserve. If you’ve neglected your oral health for too many years because of anxiety, then speak to a sedation dentist in Lathrup Village. We offer oral conscious sedation that is safe and effective.
What is Oral Conscious Sedation?
If just thinking about your appointment at the dentist causes you to worry, then oral conscious sedation may be just what the doctor orders. With this type of sedation, the dentist prescribes a low-dose sedative medication in pill form. You simply take the pill at the designated time before your appointment and your worries will begin to melt away. The sedative acts quickly so you will not be able to drive yourself to our office. Be sure to ask a relative or friend for a favor, so you have someone ready to drive you to your appointment, wait during your treatment and take you back home.
With oral conscious sedation, we can complete a variety of procedures from dental cleanings and examinations to more involved procedures such as crowns, implants or gum disease treatment. Although you will be relaxed to the point of feeling as if you’re asleep, you are actually awake so the dentist can talk with you during treatment.
If necessary, we can also administer nitrous oxide, or laughing gas, to enhance the sedative’s effects. You will continuously be monitored and you won’t be left alone while you’re sedated.
At the end of your appointment, you’ll be given time to relax in the chair until you’re ready to walk to the car on your own. Once you’re home, we recommend taking the day off to relax and recover. The sedative will still be somewhat effective in your system for several hours, so you should plan on returning to work or school the next day.
Relax with Sedation Dentistry
In addition to helping people with dental fears, sedation dentistry may also be ideal for patients with extremely sensitive teeth and gums, a quick gag reflex and those who are having a complex procedure or several services at one appointment.
So now that you know you are not the only one who is nervous about seeing the dentist, there is no reason not to schedule an appointment. If you’re worried that we might judge you for ignoring your oral health, you can relax about that, too. Our goal is to help you overcome your anxiety so you can have the dental care you need in order to have a smile that is healthy and beautiful.
